A Little About Our History

J

ames and Joe are two car guys who met during college and shared a common interest in not just admiring cars and their associated mechanics but understanding them, fixing them, building them, and designing them. They met after being introduced through a mutual friend and started talking cars right away. Shortly thereafter they collaborated together on their college Baja team building a single seat off road Baja vehicle. This allowed them to understand their strengths and weaknesses as teammates along with the rest of the team.

Throughout their college years they helped numerous people with various car troubles including Joe who owned a 2000 Saturn SL2. After Joe encountered a transmission problem on the way home for spring break, they figured out the issue and rebuilt one of the main components. Realizing they found a niche, they began selling these rebuilt parts to other Saturn owners. Many satisfied customers later and the business stuck. Further into this business they decided to modify and mess with Joe's Saturn and ultimately swap the automatic transmission out for a manual – something not entirely common in the broader car world but surprisingly simple, cost effective, and easy on the Saturn S-series. After a successful swap and many more projects, James and Joe decided there was something to Saturns.

Eventually, James and Joe began taking their street cars (James' Audi and Joe's Saturn) to tracks in the broader New York state area. They joined the Audi NEQ Club and enjoyed the high performance driving that was afforded them through NEQ's track and ice school events. This solidified their desire to do something more.

Towards the end of college the two devised a goal that post graduation if Joe moved to New York from his home state of New Jersey they would build a Saturn racecar. Still many months away from graduation and just a few notes jotted into a phone, it became a goal in the back of both of their minds.

As graduation approached Joe took a job in New York and moved locally to what would become the race shop. The Saturn racecar team became a reality not long after. Many tools, a good chunk of money, too much time and second racecar later the racing life stuck.

If you want to know the story of how they came up with the team name, its background, and the car stories, well, you'll just have to find them out on the lake or at the track and ask them about it. Some things are just better left told next to some tires with a beer in hand ... but only after a fun day out on the track.
